BTO E115 Pic

Welcome back, Chris Karnes! After some fun discussions on the state of geekdom and pop culture, we review the 1995 Nightwing mini-series and The Batman Chronicles #1. We address some listener emails and wrap up the reviews with Batgirl #48 and Gotham Academy #15. Chris has a special announcement for his Batman ’66 segment and then he puts the host on the hot seat with a Batgirl Pop Quiz to wrap up the episode. Be sure to leave your thoughts below!

I agree with you Stella. I really liked the Man of Steel movie. I don’t care for all the BvS negativity and I wish DC fans would be more optimistic about the movie until they see it. I hope BvS knocks it out of the park. Okay, on to my inquiry. DC recently had a digital sale on titles staring a female lead. This included the Gail Simone new 52 Batgirl issues. So I bought #1 and 2. I read through them once and I thought they were okay. I certainly didn’t think the first 2 issues were bad. Then I heard on both BTO and TBU Comic podcasts some pretty negative things about Gail’s Simone’s run on Batgirl. What specifically didn’t you like? Where should I start reading Batgirl to get caught up?

I was turned on to this podcast by a friend of mine. Not myself a “comic book guy” but I did enjoy the discussion n the new demographics of people getting in to comic books. Also the film and television reviews were well reasoned and equally well defended. As a play write my usual sources of inspiration are usually obscure historical events and world wide folklore. After hearing this podcast I’m going to start stealing from Marvel and D.C. This podcast also reminded me about the high quality of character development and complex plot devices used in comic book stories. Also I think it’s time the host got a break from the third degree questions! You’d think she was being interviewed by Homeland Security. Oh and by the way I think Barak Obama is doing a GREAT job. Just in case they read this!

Hi Stella, just a couple of things. You mentioned getting to see Babs on the TNT Teen Titans show. Unfortunately that series has been cancelled before they even shot a pilot. At this point our best chance of seeing a live-action Barbara Gordon is Jena Malone in Batman v Superman. Rumor is that’s who she’s going to play in the movie, though the news that she’s only appearing in the R-rated Blu-Ray release has a lot of people thinking that her only scene will be a flashback to The Killing Joke: https://disqus.com/home/channel/theaccessibleclocktower/discussion/channel-theaccessibleclocktower/jena_malone_for_bvs_oracle/

Hi, Stella! Long time listener, first time commenter. Huzzah! Congratulations on your prediction with Greg being the Fugue. I thought it might be him, but I wasn’t as confident as you were. I liked that Chris asked if you were reading any other books; I’m going to have to give Spider-Woman a try now. I do like Scarlet Witch. I took the quiz too, but I only got 7 out of 10 right. Does that give me a grade of C? I did like the trivia though; perhaps you can bring it back again sometime with you or Chris as the quiz master. He seems like a smart guy and asked things that drew out good information. Great show! Thank you!
