Episode 120

BTO E120 Pic

This is a seminal episode in BTO history! First, a special warm welcome to Sue from DC Women Kicking Ass! We talk about the history of her site and its popularity, the current state of affairs at DC Comics, and her history with Barbara Gordon. We then review the first two appearances of Birds of Prey in comics: Black Canary/Oracle: Birds of Prey #1 and Showcase ’96 #3! After the break, I review the final two issues of the current series, Batgirl #52 and Gotham Academy #18, Chris’ Batman ’66 review and my literature recommendations wrap up the episode.

My bad on the Stewart/Fletcher mixup. You’re totally right! 🙂

I agree – I don’t love the way Nightwing tends to have too many casual relationships. But as you point out so well, the relationship between Dick and Helena was really developed from beginning to where it is now. They did sleep together in the Future’s End one-shot, but that was alternate universe stuff.

Oh, I realize what I’m saying – that’s exactly what I’m hoping for! I think I remember hearing that Dick and Babs have never actually dated in the new continuity, so a Nightwing/Batgirl/Huntress triangle would be REALLY interesting. And as a huge Helena fan, I’m really looking forward to seeing what they’re doing with her backstory after the Grayson Annual #1.

What are the plans for reviews on the modern side now that Rebirth has hit?

    Salve, Stella —

You are back into titles I did read when they came out, but those were years when my job involved travel. I couldn’t always find a comic book store every week. My reading was intermittent for all titles. I’m eager to hear your take on the early birds of prey.

    Sue was a great guest.

    Fly on!
