Joaquin Phoenix in Talks to Portray Joker

Normally we’d keep the movie news for our weekly round-up, but Variety has an exclusive story we can’t pass up on sharing. According to the website, Joaquin Phoenix is currently in talks to portray the Joker in the yet unnamed Joker origin movie directed and co-written by Todd Phillips. As for what this means for Jared Leto, “insiders stress that Jared Leto, who starred in “Suicide Squad” as the Joker is still on board as the character in the DC universe and that this Phoenix has no effect on what happens with Leto’s character in future DC films.” So it looks like Phoenix’s Joker will exist in the looser DC continuity that Warner Bros. is working to create alongside its current continuity.

Now be aware that Warner Bros. and DC have not made this official and according to the article, Phillips is waiting for the studio’s blessing before announcing anything concrete.

So what do you think of Joaquin Phoenix stepping into the purple suit of the Clown Prince of Crime? Will his take end up being lauded or will fans perform Leto’s unique take? Let us know in the comments!
