Barbara gets hired to impersonate…um…herself in Detective Comics issue 388. But can she come up with a better alias??? Posted by Josh

Barbara’s first solo feature was a backup story in Detective Comics issue 384. She even lost the Princess Leia hair…too bad…I liked it. Posted by Josh

Some e-mails we got convinced us to extend "Silver Age Batgirl-scans of the day" another week. So here is something that wouldn’t fly in a comic today. They sure didn’t know how to write women back then. This originally appeared in Detective Comics issue 371. Posted by Josh

Like yesterday’s scan, this is also from Detective Comics issue 369. The more old Batman comics I read, the more I think Bruce and Dick never had any hope of a real mature relationship. Posted by Josh

Poor Dick Grayson! Then again, he is probably enjoying this. From Detective Comics issue 369. Posted by Josh

So we continue "The Month Bat-Fans Go Broke." Last week there was a mess-up and Killing Joke was delayed last minute. It was even on the DC site as it was going to be released last week only to be changed to this week a couple of days late. So I won’t go into that comic, but it is coming out today. What else is there? Let’s see. Batgirl #3 $2.99 The third issue makes it way into our comic…

I thought it might be fun to do a theme week for Bat-scans of the day. So the spotlight this time around will be Barbara Gordon’s stint as Batgirl. Here is Bruce Wayne revealing himself to her from Detective Comics issue 363…but everything is not what it seems. Let me put it this way, when the story is over Babs still doesn’t know Batman’s true identity. Posted by Josh

This week, we venture into the particular time that I will refer to as "The Month Bat-Fans Go Broke." Why is that, you ask? Well, there are almost twice as many comics and trades coming out this month than a typical month. What does the first week hold? Well, let’s find out. Batman and Robin #5 $2.99 This will be the second issue in the new story arc. If you are still trying to catch up on your…

The concept of duality in literature often refers to a contradiction of character, like Dr. Jeckel and Mr. Hyde. In comics we see this all the time with secret identities; Bruce Wayne and Batman being a perfect example. There are also depictions of this with psychopathic schizophrenic villains who, such as Two-Face are two sides of the same coin. Sometimes the dualism is less obvious and can imply a protagonist and an antagonist that are symbolically opposing elements of the same entity; Batman and Joker being my favorite case…
