TBU Review Roundup 5/25

Below you will find brief descriptions of this week’s comics along with the ratings. Below the main TBU titles will be the DC Universe specific titles that feature characters from The Batman Universe. Rather than giving in depth reviews for those titles, we will be describing what happens in the book involving TBU characters and how it possibly impacts the story.


Main TBU Books

Grayson #20: Dick offers himself for Daedulus to free Helena, which is accepted. Dick in turn battles Daedulus inside of his own head using the different versions of himself. After defeating Daedulus, Dick has completed his mission at Spyral and returns to his role as Nightwing. -Corbin 4/5


Batgirl #52: Team Batgirl teams up with Olive Silverlock and Maps Mizoguchi to take down Gladius once and for all. -Donovan 3/5


We Are Robin #12: When there is a break-in at the Wayne penthouse, the Robins must come together to stop one of their own. -Bill 4.5/5


Secondary TBU Books (Miniseries/Digital First)

Batman ’66 Meets the Man from U.N.C.L.E. #6 (Digital chapters #11-12): The Dynamic Duo, Batgirl and the Men from UNCLE try to escape from Dr. Hugo Strange’s undersea lair before they are brainwashed into joining THRUSH. -Gerry 3.5/5


Main DC Universe Books (involving TBU characters and elements)

DC Universe: Rebirth #1: Wally West travels throughout the DC Universe, searching for someone who remembers him so he can deliver a dire warning. -Ian 4/5


Justice League #50: The Justice League must now contend with Grail’s Anti-Life Steve Trevor as well as the child of Superwoman. Even when the dust settles following this battle, an even greater threat appears on the horizon. -Bill 4.5/5


Teen Titans #20: Metratroll93 creates the Legion of Dumb website to poke fun at super villains. Batman finds this site and because Red Robin is also targeted, orders Tim to deal with this issue before he does himself. Tim finds the villains Brain and Monsieur Mallah and they are able to control Wonder Girl to attack Tim. -Jim 4/5


Secondary DC Universe Books (involving TBU cameos)

Suicide Squad Most Wanted: Deadshot and Katana #5: On the Deadshot side of the story, we see how Deadshot escaped Belle Reve. He visits his daughter and promises to move with her to Australia but first he has some unfinished business. Waller leaks that Lawton is still alive and Evans discovers this and attacks the orphanage, kidnaps Floyd’s daughter and kills the others while leaving a letter for Floyd Lawton. In the Katana story, the Suicide Squad and Katana invade the Kobra Ark. Lord Naja Naja reveals his plan to use the body of the Violet Harper as the host of the immortal living energy called Aurakle and use her as a weapon of Kobra. Violet becomes the host but in the process attacks Katana and Enchantress. In retribution, Aurakle now seeks revenge for the pain it now feels in Violet.


Secret Six #14: Lady Shiva commands Strix to take out her team, but she refuses. Catman gets stabbed, but lives and Strix battles Shiva until they call a truce because everyone is a killer. Four months later, Catman and Big Shot build Strix a treehouse and they have decided to all go straight.


Justice League 3001 #12: Tina Sung, this time’s version of Batman/Robin, makes an appearance as the Justice League takes on the future version of the Injustice League. Oh, and somehow she gets sent back in time to the 21st century where she is looking forward to meeting Batman.


Deathstroke #18: Deathstroke and his kids have set up shop in Nanda Parbat at the invitation of Ra’s al Ghul. While Rose and Jericho train with the League of Assassins, Deathstroke takes out members of a rival’s gang.


The Flash #52: The Riddler’s reign of terror in Central City is ended when the Flash takes him down.
