It was just a few weeks ago that Tom King’s plan for Batman was turned upside down with a series of rumors culminating in an announcement from DC Comics that a new Batman/Catwoman miniseries would be debuting in January 2020. At the time, a piece of promotional art was released featuring work from the series’ artist Clay Mann. It seems that the art was just a piece of the larger promotional art for the series.
Tom King tweeted this new piece of art featuring the Phantasm. Longtime Bat-Fans will remember the character from the 1993 animated film, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. This character has appeared briefly in a variety of comics over the years, but all of the appearances were outside of main DC continuity. The character appearing in the upcoming Batman/Catwoman series will be the character’s first foray into the main DC Universe.
While the film is a must for every Bat-Fan to see, revealing certain aspects of the character’s back story could in fact spoil certain elements of the film. Needless to say, Phantasm’s presence could be a pretty big hiccup for anyone hoping the Batman and Catwoman could still end up together.
In the meantime, while you wait for Tom King’s next chapter in his Batman saga, consider checking out Batman: Mask of the Phantasm as soon as you can.
