Just when you thought the Batman Universe had a ton of new series last month, DC has added even more to the line of titles TBU covers. August will mark the third month in a row to add even more titles to the Bat-Books. Year of the Villain continues into August and brings a variety of special covers including ones featuring logos that are damaged as revealed earlier today. But while Year of the Villain is a major focus in the coming months, there are other things worth noting as well.
There are two new series coming to the TBU lineup in August. The first of these will be a new six-issue miniseries featuring Ra’s al Ghul. Announced just a few days ago, Batman will be dealing with Ra’s in an out of continuity story written and drawn by Neal Adams. The other addition to the lineup is a brand new Batman/Superman series written by Joshua Williamson, with art by David Marquez. This series will spin out of the events of The Batman Who Laughs, which surprisingly was expanded to seven issues with the final issue releasing at the end of July.
Outside of the main TBU titles, another new title as part of DC Zoom has been advanced solicited for October. The second book in the Super Sons series, titled Super Sons Book Two: The Foxglove Mission, marks the first book in the line to receive a followup.
There are in fact some things worth noting as far as the solicits and cover art reveals coming in August. First, there will be a Year of the Villain one-shot featuring Black Mask. This issue will be written by Tom Taylor. The solicit also mentions that despite getting away from the Teen Titans, he now comes in contact with Batwoman. Multiple other series continue to deal with the fallout of July’s Offer including Batgirl and Red Hood. There is also a new series spinning out of the Walmart Giants that features the Titans. Also as part of the release for the new Batman vs. Ra’s al Ghul series, DC will be releasing a facsimile edition of Batman #232.
When looking over creator changes for the month, there seems to be more than normal when it comes to the artists attached, but maybe it is August is being used as a rest month for a lot of the titles. Last month, Doug Mahnke was listed as back on Detective Comics, but it appears that was just for a single issue. Christian Duce is on the series for the two issues coming in August. Ram V will be managing Catwoman #14 as he fills in for Joelle Jones along with artist Mirka Andolfo. Long-time Red Hood artist Kenneth Rocafort also makes an appearance in August on the latest issue of Red Hood: Outlaw, while Travis Moore is on Nightwing and Sean Chen is on Teen Titans.
Be sure to check out the full details for everything hitting stores in August below as well as a gallery of some of the covers coming. Let us know which books you are the most excited for this month.
