DC has announced the solicitations for the month of December 2014. December will be both the end of DC’s celebration of the 75th Anniversary of Batman as well as a five-week month. So, unsurprisingly, the month of December is jam-packed with TBU content including annuals for Batman, Grayson, Red Hood and the Outlaws, and Catwoman, a “holiday special” edition of Harley Quinn, and a one shot called Robin Rises: Alpha which will conclude the Robin Rises arc in Batman and Robin and introduce the new Robin.
In the pages of Batman #37 and Annual #3, we will see the continuation of Snyder and Capullo’s “Endgame” story arc, still with no hints or any information about the subject matter of the arc but with specific reassurances that “it’s going to be big!” The continued shroud of mystery around this storyline along with the speculation about Capullo and Snyder leaving the title does suggest that the creative team may be looking to really turn out a game-changing story.
As mentioned above, Batman and Robin #37 and the one-shot Robin Rises: Alpha will finish out the several-month-long Robin Rises arc from Tomasi and Gleason and is teased as introducing the new Robin as well as the question of whether Bruce will be able to bring Damian back from the dead. Fans of the title can find out whether Damian will return to life and retake the mantle of Robin or if someone new will become the next most-famous sidekick in these two issues.
In other ongoing titles, Batman fights with Anarky in Detective Comics, Batgirl may have been replaced by an impostor, Batwoman deals with Clayface and Nocturna, Catwoman and her new crime empire fight Black Mask, and Red Hood and Harley Quinn both battle with the holidays (your guess is as good as mine as to what that means). We also get a New 52 origin of Grayson in Secret Origins #8 only five issues and an annual into the run of the title.
All three weekly titles will ship five issues in the month of December with Batman Eternal seeing the beginning of it’s third act, the apparent destruction of the Batmobile, and the Dark Knight defeated and in need of help from Selina Kyle while the inmates of Arkham Asylum roam free and the Riddler discovers the secret behind Batman Eternal.
December’s offerings will also include issue #5 of the Legends of the Dark Knight 100-page Super-Spectacular as well as DC Essentials: Batman: Hush Special Edition #1, another promotionally priced special issue as part of Batman’s 75th anniversary celebration which will showcase the beginning of the epic “Hush” storyline by Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee which may have new significance for fans of Batman Eternal given recent events in that title.
All-in-all, December will be full of content for fans of Batman. See below for the full list of solicitations
