The second annual DC FanDome is on its way. DC announced that the ultimate DC fan experience is returning on October 16. Last year’s FanDome brought the trailers for The Batman and Zack Snyder’s Justice League as well as the first looks at video games such as Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. DC FanDome 2021 is sure to feature even more trailers and announcements, but let’s break down the things that we are most looking forward to this year.
#1: More from The Batman
At last year’s DC FanDome, director Matt Reeves showed off the first teaser trailer for The Batman starring Robert Pattinson. Seeing that trailer was a highlight for the event, and it was even more surprising when Reeves said that they haven’t even finished half of the filming. To be able to cut such an amazing trailer with so little of the actual film just increases the hype for this movie.
Last year, just Matt Reeves spoke on the panel. This year, I am suspecting that he won’t be alone. I am guessing that the stars of the movie will speak this year. We’ve heard from Jeffrey Wright about the movie, but we haven’t heard much from Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, or Colin Farrell. October 16 is the time for that.
I would also bet that we hear more about the Gotham P.D. show on HBO Max starring Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, with a focus on casting and more character announcements.
#2: The Flash
Ezra Miller returns as the Flash in what is sure to be a multiverse hopping and universe-changing movie for the future of DC films. At last year’s FanDome, we saw concept art of the Flash teaming up with the Michael Keaton version of Batman. Other than that and logo reveals of Batman (as seen above), Flash, and Supergirl, we haven’t seen anything from the film (not counting the leaked set pics of course).
Seeing footage of Michael Keaton back as Batman or Bruce Wayne will be sure to break the internet. For many people, myself included, Keaton was their first introduction to a live-action Batman. The nostalgia feels are very high.
Other things to look forward to seeing are Ben Affleck back as his last go-round as Batman, Sasha Calle as Supergirl, and Erza Miller as the Flash.
#3: The Green Lantern Series
As of now, there is no premiere date on the HBO Max original Green Lantern series. Not much is known about the series other than that it will focus on the Green Lantern Corps and different generations of Lanterns. The Corps members that are slated to appear are Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, and Alan Scott. Sinestro and Kilowog are also said to appear.
Jeremy Irvine has been cast as Alan Scott and Finn Wittrock as Guy Gardener, but outside of that, there have been no other casting updates. There are other questions about this show that are unanswered. Are the episodes interconnected? Will we see the greatest Green Lantern of all, Hal Jordan? John Stewert? Will Kyle Rayner be in the show (my personal favorite Lantern)?
This show has a lot of potential and has the chance to remove the stain of the 2011 film off the Green Lantern franchise.
#4: Gotham Knights
Not since Batman: Arkham Knight in 2015 has there been a Batman-centric video game. While Gotham Knights will not star Batman as the main playable character, it is still a game set in Gotham City. It is an open-world game where you can play as Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood after Batman’s apparent death.
The game was announced last year at FanDome with a planned release for 2021 but was later pushed back until 2022. We saw some footage last year, so I would suspect that we will see even more gameplay this year.
On the same day DC released the official DC FanDome 2021 poster, they released a Gotham Knights poster teasing the Court of Owls as the main villain. Even though I am not that big a fan of the suits that the characters are in, I am very excited about this game. Here’s hoping for the chance to change up the suits during the game.
#5: Black Adam
This movie has been in development since 2017, even though it feels longer than that. Dwayne Johnson has always been attached to the role, but it never felt official until last year at FanDome when the Rock narrated some concept art that acted as a teaser for the film.
Since then, we have gotten confirmation that the film will include the Justice Society, led by Pierce Brosnan (James Bond!!) portraying Dr. Fate. We will see Hawkman, Atom Smasher, and Cyclone in addition to Fate.
Filming is just about done, so I would suspect seeing a trailer. Johnson is front and center on the DC FanDome 2021 poster, and this movie is lined up to be one of the centerpieces of the event.
The most electrifying man in all of sports and entertainment is finally making his long-hyped debut in the DC Universe. Just bring it.
DC FanDome was a huge success last year and really owned social media. There seems to be an even bigger amount of DC content this time. I didn’t even mention the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League game, Batgirl with Leslie Grace, Shazam: Fury of the Gods, the Peacemaker series, or Aquaman. It is a great time to be a DC Universe fan. October 16 can’t come soon enough for DC FanDome 2021.
