DC has just announced a new creative team for Detective Comics starting in February. After a special 104 page issue of Detective Comics #27 is released in January, former Flash writer and artist team of Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato will be taking over Detective Comics. They are really planning to make use of the "Detective" in the title for their run, and really want to show Batman as the protector of Gotham. They both spoke to USAToday.com about the announcement, and how they plan to approach the title. Here is some of what they had to say:
"We want to bring him closer to his roots and be more of a street-level type of hero. "His superheroics will still be present, but the investigative part of Batman will be at the forefront."
"Similar to the protective nature of a father to his child, his mission to keep it safe will always border on obsession. Unlike other heroes who protect their home because they want to, Batman has to. He's going to be such a fun character to sink our teeth into."
"Stylistically, we will use the tools in our toolbox to capture what we think the Bat-universe looks and feels like. Gotham won't look like Central City, so you won't be seeing all the bright reds, oranges and yellows that defined Flash's world."
