As 2014 approaches, DC Comics will welcome in the start of a new year with new series, writers, and artists taking on certain characters and comic book titles. John Layman and Jason Fabok who brought Detective Comics back from the ashes last year will finish their final arc, "Gothtopia." It will be a three-issue arc exploring a different version of Gotham City where it is without crime. Surely, Batman won't be too fond of this especially since Batwing (Flying Fox), Birds of Prey (Wings of Truth), and Talon (The Gothamite) have become Gotham's true heroes. The story arc will tie-in to Batwing, Catwoman, Birds of Prey, and Batgirl.
But, before the books tie-in to each other Detective Comics #27 will be the first chapter of "Gothtopia." The mega-sized issue will have different stories by Brad Meltzer, Gregg Hurwitz, Peter J. Tomasi, Mike Barr, and Scott Snyder with art by Bryan Hitch, Neal Adams, Ian Bertram, Francesco Francavilla, Guillem March, and Sean Murphy coming out January 8, 2014 for $7.99. Meltzer and Hitch will retell Batman's origin story with a modern-day feel. Frank Miller will also be part of the 96 page issue with new artwork.
As Layman and Fabok leave Detective Comics, Brian Buccelato and Francis Manapul will start their run on the title. You can find Layman and Fabok on the new weekly series, Batman: Eternal starting spring 2014.
