After his initial appearance four years ago, Duke Thomas finally has a code name: Signal. Originally revealed at SDCC, readers will see the first adventures of the newly minted superhero in Batman and the Signal, a new three-issue miniseries written by Scott Snyder and Tony Patrick with art by Cully Hamner. According to the official solicitation released by The Hollywood Reporter:
Batman may own the night, but with new villains emerging during the day he needs an ally to defend the city when he can’t. Only one teen is up to the challenge, Duke Thomas. After months of training, he’s ready to step out of the shadow of the bat to become his own kind of hero. Meet Gotham City’s newest protector: The Signal!
While the solicitation describes the story, we still don’t know that much about the direction of the character. It’ll be interesting to see how Signal fits into the larger Bat family, if he will still remain largely separate from the team appearing in Detective Comics, or will be eventually folded in.
Batman and the Signal #1 will hit stores on November 8.
