As we all know, Hollywood's biggest female stars have all been linked to Christopher Nolan's third Batman film project. However, recently Entertainment Weekly interviewed who many consider to be Hollywood's finest leading lady, Natalie Portman, who without ever saying "no", may have crossed herself off the list for a starring role in The Dark Knight Rises.
With Portman receiving a lot of attention for her amazing performance in Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan, which will most likely land her an Oscar nomination, the questions kept coming. When asked about not only The Dark Knight Rises, but also the new Superman reboot, Man of Steel, Portman stated that she knew nothing about either one of those projects, even with the rumors that she had scheduled meetings with both Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan.
Now this isn't the big reason that we can most likely cross Portman off the list. Portman has five films set to be released in 2011, including the superhero film, Thor, which she will most likely have to do some press for being that she has leading roles in all of them. But also, it was recently announced that Portman is now engaged and pregnant, and with The Dark Knight Rises set to start filming in May, I think its safe to factor Portman out of the equation.
Anne Hathaway has now become the new favorite to portray Lois Lane in the upcoming Superman film, as well as playing a female lead in Nolan's Batman film, but I honestly don't see Nolan using the same actress twice, especially with his name attached to both projects in some capacity. It could lead to confusion within the audiences. Also, with Portman being pregnant, she will most likely step out of the spotlight for about a year, and with so many films being released with her involvement, 2011 looks like the perfect year to do so. It is a bit disappointing, being that Portman is such a great talent, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
