DC Black Label recently made waves with their decidedly raunchy release of Batman: The Damned #1. The imprint’s attention-grabbing Batman content continues with Geoff Johns, who has given fans a first look at the character designs for the upcoming ‘Three Jokers’ book during his spotlight panel at New York Comic Con. Partnering with artist Jason Fabok, Johns’ new title will utilize three recognizable styles from the Joker’s past to give a new take on Batman’s most infamous villain.
The three Jokers featured have changed slightly from the original appearance in DC Universe: Rebirth #1. It seems the Johns is going with The Killing Joke version, the most well-known version modeled off of Joker from the 1960’s-1970’s and the original appearance. Missing is the most recent version of the Joker from Scott Snyder’s run during the New 52 which was hinted as one of the three during Johns’ relaunch for Rebirth.
The designs for the series heroes were released as well, featuring Batman and Batgirl with yellow accented costumes alongside Red Hood.
Initially, fans were not sure if the Three Jokers story-line would be included in DC’s main continuity, but DC has confirmed that this Joker narrative will be sticking around. The Three Jokers comes after the Rebirth revelation that Batman has actually been interacting with three different Jokers throughout the years. Confirming the Three Jokers in the current DC continuity has been met with mixed reactions, but it does offer a quick fix to the Joker’s ever-changing backstory.
The release date for the miniseries has not been confirmed yet, but it is expected in early 2019. What do you think of the concept art and the versions of Joker chosen?
