SDCC 2015: Multiveristy Graphic Novels and Batman: Black and White Announced

DC Comics has announced today two new projects both with Grant Morison as the lead.  Morrison revealed “MULTIVERSITY TOO,” a line of original graphic novels based on his groundbreaking and bestselling titles from “The Multiversity” series of monthly comics and his “MULTIVERSITY GUIDEBOOK.” Fans will experience stories from throughout the 52 (or more?) worlds that make up Morrison’s Map of the Multiverse and whether it’s the further adventures of Earth-4’s PAX AMERICANA, the New Reichsmen of Earth-10, the female-led Justice Guild of Earth-11 or even one of the seven “unknown worlds,” everything is fair game!

This should allow exploration via graphic novels of the multiple continuity system that has been introduced through Multiveristy and Convergence (with the reversal of Crisis on Infinite Earths essentially making any character from any time fair game for creators) but not in a way that involves DC’s ongoing titles or current continuity.

Morrison also provided early details on another series of graphic novels featuring everyone’s favorite Dark Knight in BATMAN: BLACK & WHITE. This continuing anthology series pairs Morrison’s original Batman stories with a rotating cast of some of the biggest art talents in comics, that will only serve to highlight Grant’s one of a kind perspective when it comes to comics in general and Batman in particular.

UPDATE: Later with CBR. Morrison discussed his take on the Black and White stories:

I’m basically doing a “Batman: Black & White,” which is my final word on Batman, probably. But I always say it’s gonna be my final word on Batman. … I kind of thought it would be interesting to do a fine art Batman and maybe we’ll get a couple people in there that readers will be familiar with from the comic business. Most of these people tend to do gallery shows or take photographs and it was just a way of doing a bunch of Batman stories in that black and white format and showcase a completely different type of art talent and completely different views of Batman. So somewhere we’ll be doing a Batman of Zurr-en-arrh story which is one of the weirdest things you’ve ever seen. Different takes on Batman.

No word on when either one of the projects will release at this time.
