This October, Traveller’s Tales and Warner Brother’s Interactive will be releasing LEGO DC Super-Villains, another installment in their successful LEGO video game series.
On July 20, the developers and voice cast members conducted media room sessions at San Diego Comic-Con to promote the game.
Batman fans will be pleased to learn that Kevin Conroy will be reprising his role as the caped crusader again. “The Batman audience is the most passionate of all audiences. They know him so well. You can’t mess around with that. You have to be true to him,” Conroy said. When asked if being a video game version of Batman was different than his other portrayals, Conroy answered, “The character is consistent always, but in a situation like this, you’re right, you draw more on more of a comedic sense. There’s just a sort of a more of a comedic take on him, but without making fun of him. You have to be true to the character. You have to be true to him. But it’s just with a little bit of a twist.”
He talked about the challenges of recording dialogue by himself and some interesting trivia about 2016’s “The Killing Joke” movie. “The Killing Joke, the movie was the first time Mark and I did not work together. A lot of people do not know that. He was in England doing Star Wars so we couldn’t record together. Completely separate but you would never know from listening to that movie,” Conroy said.
When asked about the recent Bat-wedding hoopla from Tom King’s comic, Conroy said “I didn’t follow it. I heard a little about it.”
The team from Traveller’s Tales gave us some details about the Joker. “The Joker is in there right from the start. As you can imagine, he [is] featured very much and has his own agenda throughout the story. He’ll be paired with Harley Quinn as well. They’ve got a great dynamic between the two of them. There’s lots of really funny dialogue and sort of banter that happens between them.”
Julie Nathanson will be reprising her role as Silver Banshee. “The way I look at it is that her character stays the same but the environment shifts. So it’s a more energetic playful environment maybe there’s more humor happening around her. Maybe there’s more color, more adventure. She’s still the same person, just shifting with the environment. She’s still going to have the same dark history,” Julie said.
She was thrilled to be in a LEGO game and noted that as the mother of a young boy, there is LEGO are all over her house. “LEGO foot is the worst thing in the world”, she said, citing the parental nightmare of stepping on a LEGO barefoot.
Fred Tatasciore will portray Solomon Grundy. “I would say this is definitely the comedic side of Solomon Grundy,” Fred said with a smile. “I work with the writers and I come in with what I know of Solomon Grundy. For years I’ve been doing him and I know his history. I got a place in my voice for him and I know where I want him to live. Then I have to decide how dumb is he, how scary is he? How funny? Because he could either be hilarious or he could be like…oh God, it’s zombie time,” he continued.
Lego DC Super-Villains will be released on all current consoles on October 16, 2018.
