The rumor wagon never stops but, 2014 is fast approaching and shooting for Man of Steel 2 will begin early next year. So, who will Warner Bros. cast as the main villain?
Variety has reported that Joaquin Phoenix might be taking the role of Lex Luthor in Batman vs. Superman. Of course, this has not been confirmed by neither Warner Bros' nor Phoenix's representatives. But, let's enteratain the idea for a moment. Phoenix needs a comeback to the general movie audience, the last movie that the audience may have seen of him was We Own Night (2007). In 2010, he tried to do a rap song with a long beard which did not earn him points. Since then, the actor has taken up indie films such as The Master (2012) and Her (2013). So, Phoenix is due out for a major role that will give him recoginition as the wealthy power driven archenemy of Superman. Is it a perfect choice? Maybe, not aesthetically with that full head of hair, but he could work the role nicely.
For those who may not be entirely sold on the idea of Phoenix as Lex Luthor, he acted as Emperor Commodus in Gladiator (2000). Where the character wanted his people to love him more than Russel Crowe's character in the movie. This is a bit similar to Lex Luthor who struggles to maintain the admiration of Metropolis with Superman. If you haven't seen Gladiator, watch it and you'll see. As stated before, nothing has been confirmed yet. According to other sources, Callan Mulvey and Jason Momoa were rumored to be cast in the movie as well.
What do you think of Joaquin Phoenix as Lex Luthor or even being part of Man of Steel 2?
