Welcome back to TBU By The Numbers. Here we take a look at the sales numbers for DC comics, in particular, the TBU books, as outlined by the TBU Roundups for June 2019. All numbers presented in this article are from the June 2019 Comichron page. These numbers only represent comics distributed by Diamond to United States comic book stores. They do not include outside the US, digital, newsstand, or any other distribution method.
DC and TBU Overall Numbers
* Includes ALL DC comic sales, including reorders
** TBU titles are defined by that month’s releases as featured on TBU Weekly Roundup articles and does NOT include reorders
Main TBU Books
Though slowly losing readers, The Batman Who Laughs continues to stay strong at the #5 spot this month, dipping just below 100K. All average sales are going down gradually, though Harley Quinn is going down very quickly, losing twenty percent of her readers in the last three months. Red Hood also isn’t fairing very well, keeping itself in the cancelation zone under 20K. Catwoman saw a small increase for this month’s issues, but on average has maintained a loyal reader base. Batman and the Outsiders went down a significant 33%, but this is a second issue, so it won’t be till next month that we’ll see how it’s really doing.
Secondary TBU Books
Batman Damned went down significantly, but it maintained over 100K in sales. Reorders for this book have also been pretty crazy, ranging between 7K and 8K. I have a feeling people want to be able to sell the full set of the “ORIGINAL BATAWANG” run of the series. Batman Beyond is losing readers at a pretty quick pace, keeping it well and firm in the cancelation zone. I’m not sure if any real changes are planned, as Jurgens will continue to stay on the book. A new arc is about to start, so maybe that will breathe some life back into the book. Sales were so low that re-orders of Batman: Last Knight on Earth were higher than it. TMNT III went down, but that is to be expected for the second issue.
Main DCU Books
DCeased went down to the #2 spot, but that is still amazing for a second issue. Though it went down significantly in readership, it is staying about 150K. Young Justice and Teen Titans are losing readers at a pretty fast rate.
Overall, almost all titles covered this month dipped. DC’s market share took yet another hit this month with the TBU titles dropping slightly. Even though the numbers were released on schedule this month, we will be skipping this month’s TBU Numbers Spotlight.
