Welcome back to TBU By The Numbers. Here we take a look at the sales numbers for DC Comics, in particular, the books TBU considers Bat-Books from November 2019. All numbers presented in this article are from the November 2019 Comichron page. These numbers only represent comics distributed by Diamond to the United States comic book stores. They do not include sales outside the US, digital, newsstand, or any other distribution method.
DC and TBU Overall Numbers
* Includes ALL DC comic sales, including reorders
** TBU titles are defined by that month’s releases and does NOT include reorders
Main TBU Books
All market positions adjusted to include the issues featuring a higher price for cardstock covers
DC sales overall were really good, trendwise. The latest installment of “City of Bane” in Batman brought sales up to almost 90K, but then that went back down for #83. Detective Comics, Harley Quinn, Nightwing, Batman and the Outsiders, Batgirl, and Red Hood all are seeing significant improvements over their average sales, and Catwoman, even though not seeing overall improvement, is up from last month. Gotham City Monsters and Batman Universe aren’t doing too hot, but Batman Universe only has one more issue to release.
Secondary TBU Books
All market positions adjusted to include the issues featuring a higher price for cardstock covers
There are significantly less secondary TBU books this month, and none are doing too well. Batman Beyond is seeing a slight improvement, but my theory on that is is that it doesn’t have that much farther it can fall, though overall it is seeing decent improvement. It’s still in the cancelation zone, where it has been comfortably residing forever.
Main DCU Books
All market positions adjusted to include the issues featuring a higher price for cardstock covers
The DCU books feature TBU characters are all doing decently well. Even Leviathan ended over 40K, Justice League saw a bit of a rise and then a drop again, Teen Titans is out of the Danger Zone, and Young Justice went up a hair from last month.
Sales are up, if just a little, from the same month last year. Though not covered here, DC did really great due to their release of big-ticket graphic novels in November. This could be due to Black Friday/weekend shoppers/Pre-Holidays shopping, but it is good none the less. And I’m not sure holidays really account for regular books doing so much better than average. This month we will take another break from doing a Numbers Spotlight, so check back in next month for the sales report for December.
