DC Comics has released their solicitations for all ongoing titles and miniseries in the month of October 2015, and October looks to be a big month for Batman fans. The biggest piece of news out of these solicitations is the beginning of the new weekly series, Batman and Robin Eternal, that was announced at San Diego Comic Con. This new weekly series will run for six months (half the length of the other Batman Eternal series) and the first issue will be a little more expensive for fans who want to follow the series with a cover price of $3.99 (the first series was $2.99). All four of the initial issues have the same solicitation to avoid spoilers and promise to give us a look back at a case that Batman and Robin (with Dick Grayson as Robin) dealt with five years earlier with a human trafficker known only as “Mother”. Now, in the present, the full consequences of that old case are finally coming to bear and Dick and the rest of the Bat-family have to deal with these consequences without Batman. However, the solicits are unclear why Batman is not involved (possibly due to Bruce’s being outside the cowl in current continuity).
Meanwhile, in the pages of Batman #45, Jim Gordon deals with a new threat (possibly meaning that the Mr Bloom arc will end with the annual in September) and questions what it means to wear the cowl of Batman. In Detective Comics, we get a new story from a completely new creative team (written by Peter Tomasi with art by Marcio Takara who is new the Batman Universe) in which the new Batman gets his first team-up with the Justice League to solve a mass murder case.
Grayson #13 sees Dick back with Spyral after his trip to Gotham City still as an infiltrator in the spy organization while continuing his team-up with Midnighter in Midnighter #5. Batgirl must deal with a “familiar face from her past” in issue #45 of her title. Red Hood and Arsenal continue to fight with Batman while Damian finds himself fighting his mother, Talia al Ghul, and the Robins seek to learn more about “The Nest.”
Catwoman #45 finds Selina reeling from a tragedy and still searching for Batman and Black Canary fights a new nemesis called Bo Maeve. Harley Quinn finds herself dealing with the dark side of Hollywood in issue #21 of her title while we see the climax of Harley and Power Girl’s fight with Oreth Odeox in the penultimate issue of that miniseries. In Gotham by Midnight, the squad deals with the fallout of their internal affairs investigation while Corrigan faces down the Spectre to save Gotham, while in the pages of Gotham Academy, the gang explores downtown Gotham to investigate Calamity and the possibility that Olive’s mom may still be alive. Meanwhile, Batman Beyond #5 promises to have fan-favorite characters “coming out of the woodwork” to help Tim fight against Brother Eye and the Cyborg Justice League to save the Earth.
We see the Justice League of America depending on Batman to save them after having been defeated by Rao in JLA #5, while the second wave of the Darkseid War begins in Justice League #45 with members of the Justice League having gained the power of Gods. We will also get a tie-in one shot called Justice League: Gods and Men – Batman which focuses on Batman’s new role as the God of Knowledge in this story.
October will also bring new issues of other Batman Universe titles like Teen Titans, the new series Titan Hunt which spins off from the events of Convergence, New Suicide Squad, Bat-mite, Earth 2: Society, Batman ’66, Injustice Year Four, Batman: Arkham Knight, Batman: Arkham Knight Genesis, and DC Bombshells.
