With filming wrapped on the third season of Titans, Variety has learned that Barbara Gordon has not only been cast for the season, but has details regarding the character as well.
Actress Savannah Welch has been cast to play Barbara Gordon. You read that correctly, Barbara Gordon, not Batgirl. As viewers of the show know, the timeline for the Batman Universe elements of the show take place at a later time.
In the article, it is revealed that Barbara is the Gotham City Police Commissioner and uses a wheelchair. It was also stated that this is due to a run-in with the Joker hinting that the Killing Joke may have happened in some form in this universe. She also has a troubled relationship with Bruce Wayne. Things change though when Dick Grayson returns to Gotham. They rekindle their relationship and start a new partnership for fighting crime.
Welch has appeared in the History Channel series Six, where she played a marine who dealt with an amputation during combat. Welch, herself, lost one of her legs in an accident and is a spokesperson for the disabled community.
No word on when the third season of Titans will air, but Gotham, the Bat-Family, and the Batman Universe are becoming much more significant aspects of the series with the already revealed addition of Red Hood. Titans is expected to premiere its third season on HBO Max in 2021.
