Earlier this year, DC Comics announced a partnership with the popular video game Fortnite that delivered a crossover comic series called Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point. Due to the success of the series, a new comic was announced as a one-shot for October. At the time of its announcement, there were very few details other than the creative team from Zero Point would be joined by writer Scott Snyder for the new issue. Now DC has revealed many more details for what is now known as Batman/Fortnite: Foundation #1. Outside of the new one-shot getting a name, the issue also received further details for what fans can expect as well as a preview of the comic and its multiple covers.
Batman/Fortnite: Foundation #1 is co-written by Epic Games Chief Creative Officer Donald Mustard, Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point writer Christos Gage and acclaimed Batman and Dark Nights Metal/Dark Nights Death Metal writer Scott Snyder. Art is provided by Joshua Hixson (pencils and inks), Roman Stevens (colors) and AndWorld Design (letters). Snyder’s longtime collaborator, artist Greg Capullo, teams up with Jonathan Glapion and Matt Hollingsworth for the main cover, with variant covers provided by Alex Garner, plus a premium variant cover by Epic Games CCO Donald Mustard (check local stores for availability).
Returning to Gotham City after the events of Zero Point, Batman is faced with a new mystery and a new arrival. The Foundation, an enigmatic figure from Fortnite Island, emerges from the depths of Gotham Harbor, and the Dark Knight wants to investigate what he is doing in his city.
It was also revealed with the details of Batman/Fortnite: Foundation #1, that the comic will release in nine international territories on the same release day: Argentina, Brazil, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Poland, and Spain, along with the United States and Canada. The physical versions of the comic will include a bonus code to download a special Batman Who Laughs skin for the game (seen above) and an exclusive loading screen featuring the character (seen below). The skin will also be available for purchase in the in-game item shop once the comic releases.
On top of all of that, it was also announce that there is a new collaboration between DC, Warner Bros. Consumer Products, Epic Games, and clothing designer Extra Butter NY. They will be offering a number of DC x Fortnite shirts and hoodies featuring the Batman Who Laughs. The items are available worldwide and can be ordered now directly from Extra Butter NY. You can see a gallery of the items below.
And if all of that Batman x Fortnite news wasn’t enough, DC also revealed a trailer featuring a recap of the events from the original series, along with more details for Batman/Fortnite: Foundation #1. The comic arrives on October 26.
