Phew! This summer has been hot! Thankfully, Ian and Steph have something fun to do in the A/C…read Batman: Wayne Family Adventures! Let’s see what they thought of these last 3 weeks of episodes in their Wayne Family Adventures review!
Steph: Hi Ian! How’ve you been?
Ian: Pretty well! Just reading Batman: Wayne Family Adventures and writing furiously! 🙂
Steph: Great! That’s what I wanted to talk to you about. We’ve got three more episodes to talk about, starting with #94 “A Little Help From Friends”.
Ian: Oh, man, this episode was FANTASTIC
Steph: Introducing Arthur Curry, Aquaman!
Ian: I am in no little ways biased because Aquaman seeks help from the one, the only, Stephanie Brown!
Steph: And Luke Fox helps too!
Ian: Loved seeing good ol’ Batwing again! It’s been too long!
Steph: What did you think of the Bat-family passing him along from person to person?
Ian: I think they all just really wanted to meet Aquaman. Arthur is super cool, after all!
Steph: That’s a good point. The villain is taken out pretty quickly and easily, but obviously that’s not the point of the episode. What did you think of the “nasty Gotham water” gag?
Ian: Well, obviously this is a more polluted Gotham City than in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, hilariously, but it was really funny!
Steph: I’ll ask, because I can’t not. What did you think of Steph’s appearance, as in, her character?
Ian: She was awesome! I loved that she was full of helpful knowledge, as a veteran Bat-family member! I always like seeing Steph being an important part of the solution, since so often she has been cast as “the unimportant one’.
Steph: Well, of course. Steph’s are very important. 😊
Ian: She is perhaps the MOST important to readers named Ian!
Steph: Any last thoughts before we move on to more serious things?
Ian: I love the punchline at the end where Aquaman points out that Batman’s whole “I work alone” schtick as completely nonsense. 🙂
Steph: Oh yeah! That was great. He needs his family!
Ian: It’s in the title of the Webtoon!
Steph: Well, let’s lump the next two together, episodes #95 and #96, “Win Or Lose”.
Ian: Indeed! This was a much more complicated one than we’ve seen in a while, and Jason’s second two-parter.
What did you think about his struggles against Black Mask and his important choice?
Steph: I really loved it. I think this is a good growth for Jason. Before we’ve gotten him overcoming his past trauma, but now he’s growing. He’s discovering what is important to him about fighting crime, as well as why he’s doing it.
Ian: I appreciate the he was willing to save a child over taking revenge/punishing the villain first. But I like that again, there’s no easy answer where you can get everything you want. You have to make choices, and sometimes you have to give up something.
Steph: Yeah. They didn’t say “oh, by the way, Bat-fam took care of him. It’s all good”. There was actual sacrifice made by Jason because of his choice.
Ian: Yup. And even though we believe Jason made the right choice, there are still negative consequences!
That’s the kind of more mature thinking I appreciate in a comic.
Steph: Definitely. I liked that he took what the kid said in the first episode seriously, and then makes the effort to keep his word. I think it’s too common today for people not to take the promises seriously, but Jason decided to be a man of his word. That’s amazing for a kid who used to steal tires.
Ian: This, as the Mandalorian says, is the way.
Steph: Well, how are you feeling about this season? It’s got to be coming to an end soonish.
Ian: Yeah, we’re coming up on 100 fast, and the first season was 51 episodes, so perhaps 102 will be season 2’s finale!
Steph: I’ve loved it. There were a few episodes that weren’t super strong, and the sub-artist isn’t as amazing as Starbite, but overall it’s been an amazing ride. I’ve loved every thing…except Bernard.
Ian: Very much so! I think the second batch of 2-parters focusing on individual characters have been very strong, and I look forward to more of them! And picking up characters like Huntress again, including Black Canary, and having big Justice League characters show up like Aquaman are all great! Now we just need to make Kent Family Adventures and Prince Family Adventures showing up more often!
Steph: That would be fun! Thank you for being my WFA friend! This is really fun!
Ian: Thank you for putting these wonderful chats together! I can’t wait for our next one!
Have a great night!
Steph: Night!
