The original 1966 Batmobile which was used on the Saturday morning live action T.V. show has sold at auction for $4.6 Million at the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company. George Barris, the creator of the 1966 Batmobile, put the car up for sale after years of turning down large sums of money for the car. When asked why he decided to finally part with the car, he says that after sitting in his studio for so long he thought it was time for the car to be put somewhere where it could be enjoyed by everyone. Barris, with a tight deadline, decided to customize a 1955 Lincoln Futura to create the Batmobile which, in the show, sported a Batphone, oil slick that could take out a pursuing car, and smoke that could confuse your pursuer. Rick Champagne, who owns a logistics company, revealed himself to be the buyer soon after the auction ended in an interview with Speed TV. He says that the Batmobile will be put on display in his living room.
