SUICIDE SQUAD: August 2016
Our first bit of news comes in the form of recently released stills from David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. There was a new image that pooped up online featuring a new look at Will Smith’s Deadshot and Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn.
Other news related to the Rogue gathering involves Batman’s oft ally Katana. Actor Karen Fukuhara talked to ComicBook about her role in the film, and that she is actually a loyal follower of Amanda Waller and Rick Flag.
Just how important Katana will be in the film remains to be seen, but such an integral part of The Batman Universe should see us welcome a well rounded and fleshed out character to span many films for years to come.
WONDER WOMAN: June 2017
One question regarding next year’s Wonder Woman solo film is just how closely it will tie in with the broader DC universe. As it’s set mainly in the early 20th century, the film could purely be seen as a foundation for films placed in the present day. However, as seen in fan photos, from the set in Paris that first appeared on Batman-News, have revealed that there may be at least a passing nod to the greater universe the film takes place in. Take a look at the image below and notice the name on the side of the truck. While it may be a not so subtle nod to Batman, it may also be a precursor to a possible Dark Knight cameo.
JUSTICE LEAGUE PART ONE: November 2017
As he does the press rounds, questions keep flying at Whiplash star JK Simmons regarding his upcoming role as James Gordon in next year’s Justice League. As far as when the actor will begin filming, Simmons said “I don’t get started on that until June, and my part in the first one is very small. I’m excited to be playing that iconic character in that iconic series. I’m going into a thing that hopefully will be 2, 3, 4, maybe more movies for me, and my part in the first one is really very small, but obviously, we know who the guy is. We know his whole backstory, based on the comic book. So, I’m just gonna finish doing my research on that. And probably not watch the other actors who have played the part, because that is kind of intimidating, honestly, and I don’t think I would find that to be productive. So, I’ll do my take.”
It’s nice to see how committed Simmons is to playing the character, and it’s certainly exciting to hear him mention how many films he may possibly portray Gotham’s Commissioner in. The interview was previously posted online in video form, but later made private.
THE FLASH: March 2018
In some late breaking news last night, The Hollywood Reporter has stated the director attached to The Flash, Seth Grahame-Smith, has departed the project due to “creative differences.” Unfortunately, for Warner Bros. this is not the first time we have heard this with the announcement of a director leaving a project as Michelle MacLaren was the first director attached to Wonder Woman before leaving for the same reasons.
AQUAMAN: July 2018
And right off the heals of The Flash news, Birth.Movies.Death has heard that there are some problems with Zack Snyder behind the scenes with Warner Bros. and has also spilled into the Aquaman camp as director James Wan is currently nervous about his project based off of the response from Batman v Superman.
What does this mean for the entire DC Cinematic Universe? We will have to wait and see how things pan out. But one thing is for sure, WB has put too many eggs in DC’s basket to let it fail now.
