Warner Bros. Consumer Products and Cartamundi Group have teamed together to bring trading cards into the twenty-first century – combining the physical and the digital with their DC Hybrid Trading Cards by Hro.
The physical cards, which will each feature a DC character, will be available for purchase in-store and online at Walmart, Amazon (in the U.S. and the U.K), and at the online HRO shop. The packs will start at $4.99 and be available in different sizes: 7-card Flowpack, 2-pack, Premium 2-pack, Premium 4-pack, Starter 8-pack, and 24 Cards Display Unit. Packs will contain between seven and one hundred and sixty-eight cards depending on the pack.
Hro will offer the first DC-based hybrid NFT trading cards with the ability to own a physical trading card with an NFT component. This will bring blockchain technology together with an in-store presence for the first time. The NFTs are minted on Immutable X, an Ethereum-based carbon-neutral Layer2 blockchain. The new cards will hit shelves and digital wallets this month, with more content coming throughout the year.
Each card will have a QR code, which will connect it to a twin digital card on the Hro app. This will give you access to a 24/7 global marketplace where you will be able to buy, sell, and trade your way to a complete set. The digital marketplace will also have rare DC art and movie memorabilia, DC content, and challenges to compete in. There will also be rewards and experiences that you can only gain by completing the challenges, rather than being able to buy them outright.
The initial launch will feature a variety of trading cards featuring The Batman. Some of the cards will feature stills from the film, as well as unique art yet to be seen in promotional material. As with all trading cards, there is a level of rarity for the cards with the levels starting at common to uncommon, superior to epic, and legendary to mythic.
If you are thinking to yourself that this might appeal to a very niche audience, think again. The initial sale of items available on the Hro shop already sold out. So there is going to be a demand for these new collectibles even if you may immediately dismiss them. Take a look at the gallery below for a quick glance at what to expect. The cards have yet to appear on the online channels mentioned in the press release, but we will update the article as soon as the hybrid DC trading cards from Hro are available.
