This month, Batman: Streets of Gotham and its storyline “House of Hush” reach their conclusions, and if I had to choose any issue to leave on it would be this. The action is visceral, the plot twists are jarring, and there is limitless proof of the creative team’s outstanding abilities. It’s a shame that these qualities were missing from the majority of this arc’s run, a situation that was only magnified by the sheer volume of filler and interruptions…

What’s that noise? That’s my opinion of Batman: Streets of Gotham backing up. This one issue was enough for me to take a complete 180 degree turn on this book. What we have here is an issue made up almost entirely of one flashback. Before the flashback begins, Paul Dini gives the status quo of the rest of the players in the current story. Batman and Catwoman escape from the police who were apparently deployed because Bedbug had set…

Introducing: Batman (Detective Comics #27), Commissioner Gordon (Detective Comics #27), Doctor Death (Detective Comics #29) Important Events: Batman’s Origin (Detective Comics #33) In 1939 the comic book world was introduced to the costumed superhero known as the Bat-Man. Wealthy playboy, Bruce Wayne by day; masked crime fighter by night. His debut in Detective Comics #27 was a mere six pages and titled, “The Case of the Chemical Syndicate.” Originally created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger (uncredited), Batman’s early stories were very dark and sinister. Batman is not hesitant…

This month’s issue of Batman: Streets of Gotham jumps straight into the action, and so shall we. Hush’s recently acquired mob squad has led him to the lair of Dr. Death, whose efforts to mercilessly kill them all are quickly thwarted. Hush strong arms the masked villain into his employ, and his plan to murder Bruce Wayne finally starts to pick up some steam. While this is all an improvement from last week, it’s actually out-shined by a mostly…

It’s hard to not oversell the latest issue of Detective Comics, because it is honestly one of the best series I’m reading right now. With every issue Scott Snyder escalates the sense of dread and danger as Batman closes in on the sinister “Mirror House.” The issue starts with a high-speed chase as Dick tries to corner his newest lead to the perverse auction house. The unexpected (and self inflicted) death of the suspect gives Dick a way into the Mirror House’s next event, which…

My immediate thoughts after seeing the cover to this month’s Batman: Streets of Gotham were, “What the heck is the Joker doing there?” Now of course that’s not a bad thing by any means, but I was still caught a little off guard since he has not played any role in "The House of Hush" up to this point. So I had high hopes for this issue and was excited to see how Paul Dini would incorporate the psychopathic…

It’s too bad that Streets of Gotham will be discontinued this spring, but at least with the current story arc, House of Hush, it looks like the series may go out with a bang. When Paul Dini writes for this series, it’s been great and so far this Hush story has been no different. The Bedbug’s Bite opens with Bruce checking out a large gathering of people in Gotham and discovers that they are all sleepwalking under the control of…

Tony Daniel returns to right a ship that has gone way off course. The most important title in comics has been a weak imitation of its former self since Judd Winick took over the helm. Acclaimed more for his art than his prose, the creative mind behind Battle for the Cowl takes over both duties as he resumes his interpretation of Dick Grayson’s Batman.
I’m not much of a Tony Daniel fan, and to be honest was expecting to be writing some scathing words of disapproval at…
