In Saturday’s Gotham City Confidential panel at New York Comic Con 2023, DC Comics’ editor-in-chief Marie Javins announced the release of a story never seen before. Fans should remember that in the pages of Batman #428, part 3 of “A Death in the Family” arc, Jason Todd died at the hands of the Joker. DC accomplished this ending due to the votes of DC fans, who called in to a special 900 number to make their choices known. The rest is history.
Now, the never-before-seen story telling what would have happened if Jason Todd survived the blast is being released from DC Comics’ vault. It will feature the alternate ending to an event that truly polarized DC fandom. The polarization was seen in the final tally. Jason’s death sealed by a vote of 5,343 yes votes to 5,271 no votes – a difference of only 72 votes. Full disclosure, I am responsible for multiple yes vote that I do not regret.
Now fans can get their hands on the other story. In what Marie Javins coined as a “faux-simile,” this new version of Batman #428 will tell the story of Jason Todd surviving the blast that killed him in current continuity. This alternate edition is the original story and art from Batman #428, written by Jim Starlin with art by Jim Aparo.
The “Faux-Simile” of Batman #428 with the alternate ending releases on December 12, 2023 from DC Comics at shops everywhere.
To add clarity to the "faux-simile" issue. This is the original story from Jim Starlin and Jim Aparo that was in waiting depending on the results of the fan poll. This is not a new story.#Batman #NYCC23 #NYCC #gothamcityconfidential #gothamcity #comics #deathinthefamily
