Over the past week, there has been a number of news bits that have been released regarding the DC Multiverse line from McFarlane Toys including launching their own retail store online. So here is a quick breakdown of some recent updates that have popped up along with some new announcements including one regarding a new life for DC Direct.
McFarlane Toys has had, what appears to be, a lot of success from the license they first gained in 2020. That’s not to say that the company was not having plenty of success prior to taking on the DC Comics license, but they have been growing leaps and bounds over the past year and a half which just so happens to be when they first teamed with DC Comics. Since 2020, they have released almost as many figures, from a variety of versions of the characters, as Mattel did in the final three years of having the license.
So on to the news! First up, it appears that there is yet another variant for the Batman Beyond wave. We have already seen a normal Batman Beyond that was exclusive to Target along with a Build-a-Figure piece and then there was the non-exclusive release of Batman Beyond minus the Build-a-Figure piece and with slightly different accessories. Now another variant has popped up as Toy News International has come across an image of a digitized version of Batman Beyond that was found at Target.
The next big news is that DC Direct is returning. It was announced last August that DC Direct was shuttering after over twenty years of producing unique items for collectors. This was a result of some consolidation within the corporate structure of DC Comics and left some collectors hoping for certain items in the lurch. It seems that McFarlane Toys saw this and has come up with a solution because starting in 2022, McFarlane Toys will be developing new statues, busts, figures, and more under a new global partnership.
The next reveal is the addition of another multipack featuring the Batman Universe. In the same vein as the previously released Nightwing and Red Hood pack, the White Knight Batman will be facing off against the White Knight version of Azrael. Toyark has shared an image of the new set which is planned for a release in October 2021 for $39.99.
Finally, while not huge news given all of the other news, McFarlane Toys will be launching their very own online retail store. The new store will launch on August 4 and promises exclusive releases not found elsewhere along with the latest non-retailer exclusive figures. While you will not find everything since the beginning of McFarlane Toys taking over the DC Multiverse line, there are bound to be plenty of options.
So a single week has brought a lot of news from McFarlane Toys regarding the future of not only the DC Multiverse line, but even more DC collectibles coming in the future. What are you hoping to find with the launch of the McFarlane Toys online store?
