It has been quite some time since we at TBU brought you any kind of Batman 3 news. Mostly because, there hasn't been much. The last time we mentioned anything, we said wait for January for an announcement. Well, January came and went and there wasn't anything announced. But it seems that we still might not be that far off from an announcement.
In December, we posted up that a number of producers involved with DC projects were saying that news was coming soon from Warner Bros. The news could not come soon enough for most fans. Over the past couple of weeks there has been a sudden quake of rumors and bits of truth that have emerged.
The first thing that popped up was over at IGN. IGN posted up a story last week centered around the quarterly earnings report from Warner Bros. The entire report was transcribed by Seeking Alpha. During the report they hinted at the mentioned that "in a matter of weeks" an announcement is coming about WB plans with the new DC Entertainment. The transcript had this to say:
"[Regarding] DC, we are going to have a fairly interesting set of announcements and presentations pretty soon … like in a matter of weeks, I think," said TW Chairman & CEO Jeff Bewkes. "About our plans for DC, and basically if you look across the title of the whole band of hits, whether its Batman, The Dark Knight, Green Lantern coming up, Superman, there have been a huge number of franchised films that have been part of the Warner [tent pole] strategy that's been the reason for Warner's unparallel[ed] high and consistent earnings advantage over the other studios. … And DC has already been a part of that and we are now going to outline an even more expansive plan for that in the coming months."
So with that being said, we really can expect something very soon. Now the question is, will we hear something about Batman 3?
There has been a number of things that we have heard through the pipeline. One of them being that Warner Bros. has purchased permits in Chicago for filming. Those permits center around a October 2010 start time. Now, will that be for Batman 3? We don't know for sure. WB has tons of films every year, and again we can hope.
Another interesting point, the status of Batman 3 on IMDB has been updated to pre-production. Again, this is part of the mill and has to be taken lightly.
But the real reason this has all become news is what has happened over the last couple of days. On Friday, The Hollywood Reporter posted a story about David Goyer and his work on FlashForward. FlashForward is a show on ABC that Goyer has been working on. In the article, it was stated that Goyer will be taking a less hands-on role with the show to work on other projects. Now speculation is that one of the projects that he would be working on is Batman 3.
Today, however, the speculation may have gone even further or may be true. Deadline.com posted up the news of Goyer stepping down from the show, but also put in a small sentence that could mean big things for Batman fans.
Of course, Goyer's feature career is really heating up, since he co-wrote Batman Begins, and penned the story for The Dark Knight, and is now writing the third Batman installment with Chris Nolan's brother Jonah.
Now it has been reported on many sites out there that Goyer is in fact writing Batman 3 with Jonah Nolan now. Is this the truth or is this something that is taking some liberty on various posts over time? Batman-on-Film posted last February that Goyer and Jonah Nolan were attached to Batman 3. With all of the news wrapped into one story, one thing could definitely lead to another.
So now, the decision is yours. The facts are all laid out for you to decide. As for our thoughts, keep waiting for that announcement from Warner Bros. It is just around the corner.
