Over 15 years ago we were given the epic twelve issue storyline “Hush” written by Jeph Loeb and drawn by Jim Lee. The story brought together characters from all corners of the Batman Universe from Clayface to Huntress while giving us our first hints that Jason Todd was still alive and also alluding to a potential romantic relationship between Batman and Catwoman. The titular character of Hush was able to mastermind a plan that pushed Batman and Bruce Wayne to his absolute limit and left fans wanting more. Now all this time later Warner Bros. is revisiting Hush with an all-new animated film.
Following up on the Victorian era-set Gotham by Gaslight “Hush will find the series returning to the present day and set in a much more familiar Gotham City. The comic storyline featured popular Bat baddies like Poison Ivy, Ra’s al Ghul, and the Joker, but it’s also well known for introducing the villain it’s named after—the bandage-faced Hush. While a child version of the character has made a couple of appearances on Gotham and Hush has appeared in video games like the Arkham and LEGO Batman titles, he’s never before appeared in a DC Universe Movie.”
No voice cast has been released for the film but it will be interesting to see who they select as the voice of Hush/Tommy Elliot. As he took great pains to become Bruce Wayne, will that also mean he’ll share the same voice? Having one actor play a dual role could really allow for a new layer to be added to the story in a way we’ve not seen before.
Batman: Hush will be released in the summer of 2019 just in time for the 80th anniversary of Batman. That may be the highlight for Bat-Fans, but Warner Bros. also announced not just two, but three other films releasing next year. The first one is one we already knew was coming which is the follow-up to The Death of Superman. Reign of the Superman will release in early 2019. In Spring 2019, a new Justice League films titled Justice League vs The Fatal Five will release. With Batman: Hush coming in the summer the fourth release for the year will be Wonder Woman: Bloodlines. No details on Justice League or Wonder Woman other than they are meant to be original stories.
Let us know your dream voice cast for the film and which characters you absolutely want to see make the cut in a film that will surely be jam-packed with heroes and villains alike.
