WaterTower Music has announced that the soundtrack to The LEGO Batman Movie will release on February 3 in both digital and CD form. Some interesting tidbits about the film were included, which fans of the LEGO building sets associated with previous superhero franchise movies will find slightly ironic, as they provide a few spoilers for the upcoming Warner Animated film.
The soundtrack includes new recordings from several of today’s pop music darlings, many of which are covers of familiar classics. Perhaps most importantly, the infectious, now-classic dance number “Everything Is Awesome” is, of course present, along with a rendition of “Man in the Mirror,” from Richard Cheese and Lounge Against The Machine. A new version of Bowie’s “Heroes (We Could Be)” made the cut as well, a winky nod to the film’s self-centered protagonist from DJ Alesso featuring Tove Lo. There’s also new music from DNC, Patrick Stump, Kirsten Arian, Henry Nilsson and Oh, Hush! Featuring Will Arnett and Jeff Lewis. But most importantly to inquisitive fans will be the 16 musical cues from the score by Lorne Balfe (with Chad Smith of The Red Hot Chili Peppers on drums.)
Titles like “The Phantom Zone” and “The Babs Signal” provide at least a small glimpse towards plot points of the film, while other track names such as “Battle Royale” may seem like a foregone conclusion, but still leave something to the imagination. All will be revealed February 10th when The LEGO Batman Movie hits theaters.
In addition to the digital format and CD, the soundtrack will also get a vinyl release on May 19. You can pre-order your CD version of the release on Amazon here.
