SUICIDE SQUAD: August 2016
With such a wide range of rogues in David Ayer’s upcoming DC film, the questions asks itself as to just how these characters came to be in the famous Arkham. Luckily we got some information regarding this from Killer Croc actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. During an interview at CinemaCon, Abgaje said “All of these so-called villains are villains that Batman has had some history with and caught and brought into Arkham Prison. So whether it comes before or after I’m not sure, but I do know he has captured us all and imprisoned in Arkham, so we’ve all got a gripe to bear against the ol’ Bat.”
Croc himself wouldn’t reveal whether he wrestles with the Caped Crusader, but a montage at the start of the film depicting how each Squad member was apprehended by Batman would certainly be a treat. There have already been hints in the trailers with The Dark Knight chasing both Harley and Joker so we can at least expect to see their capture on screen, but as far as the rest go we’ll likely have to wait till August to discover any other potential Batfleck scenes.
WONDER WOMAN: June 2017
While you would expect the Wonder Woman casting to be complete by now, the film is still throwing a few surprises our way. The Amazon herself Gal Gadot added a picture to her Instagram to confirm a long rumored co-star’s involvement. Dutch Supermodel Doutzen Kroes is pictured here alongside stars Gadot and Connie Nielsen, with Gadot captioning the picture “Amazonianhood – Love my sisters”. Check it out below:
JUSTICE LEAGUE PART 1: November 2017
This week news broke that Willem Dafoe was joining fellow Spider-Man alumna JK Simmons in next year’s Justice League Part One. As Simmons was announced a number of weeks ago, there’s been time for news outlets to pry him a little for information on his upcoming role as Jim Gordon. Speaking with Collider, Simmons said ““Well, to read the comics, yes, absolutely. I’m still a couple of months out from doing that and I have two other films before then, so I haven’t gotten started on that. Obviously, a lot of really wonderful actors have played that character previously, and most of them I saw at the time the movies came out, never imagining that I would be doing the same thing. So, I can’t say that I don’t have some impression of that character in my head that’s based on what I saw, but I’m not planning on going back and watching any of the other films. I’m just planning on learning as much as I can about him through the comics and getting my feet wet in the first movie, and then hopefully continuing on from there.”
He also teased a little about how this Gordon differs to those that came before him. “My understanding, from what I’ve learned so far about Commissioner Gordon, is that he’s the older guy with the mustache who relates with our hero in a certain way. Other than that, it’s a vastly different character and much more of a stronger, impactful character in the DC universe.” With an actor the caliber of Simmons and with his history in not only the Spider-Man franchise but also the DC animated back catalogue, we can be sure that he’s bringing a lot of talent and experience to compliment that of Gotham’s Commissioner.
