Warner Bros. has announced their latest offerings through Warner Archive and one of the titles heading to home video is Pennyworth Season 2. The second season of Pennyworth first debuted in late December 2020 with the remaining episodes of the season airing on Epix in March and April 2021. The full ten-episode season will now make its way to Blu-ray and DVD for those who weren’t tuning in on the premium network.
A year after the explosive events of last season, England finds itself embroiled in a devastating civil war, with the powerful, neo-fascist Raven Union, led by Lord Harwood (Jason Flemyng) threatening to control the entire country. North London remains one of the few resistance holdouts remaining. It’s here in the West End Neutral Zone, that we find Alfred Pennyworth (Jack Bannon). After years in the British Army, his training with the SAS has taught him to be a cynical optimist – expecting the worst, but knowing that he can handle it. Now running The Delaney, a black-market Soho club that welcomes everyone, regardless of their politics, Alfred, with his SAS mates, “Bazza” (Hainsley Lloyd Bennett) and “Daveboy” (Ryan Fletcher), is now in search of a way out – before London, and his country burns itself to the ground. And he’s got his eye on America.
In addition to the second season coming to home video, DC Comics recently announced that a seven-issue miniseries will be coming this August featuring the continuity of the television series. Promising to fill in the gaps between the years shown in the television series and the eventual continuity of Alfred being the father figure we know for Bruce Wayne, the series will come from writer Scott Bryan Wilson and artist Juan Gedeon.
Spanning the years between the hit TV show and today, Pennyworth tells the continuing adventures of Alfred Pennyworth as an MI6 counterintelligence agent—this time in Cold War-era Soviet Russia. When Alfred and his partner receive intelligence that nuclear weapons are being manufactured near the Arctic Circle, they’re off to infiltrate the remote military base to learn more. But things don’t go exactly as planned, and the ramifications of this mission may be more far-reaching than anyone could have guessed, as our present-day butler gets dragged back into his past…
The comic series will feature a card stock variant for $4.99, while the standard cover will be $3.99. Pennyworth #1 hits stores on August 10.
Back to the television series, there have been some rumblings that Warner Bros. has been trying to bring the series from Epix over to HBO Max for a third season, but other than an initial rumor, no more information has materialized about the future of the series. For now, look for the second season of the series to hit retailers on July 13. You can catch up now by finding Pennyworth Season 1 on Amazon and you can preorder Pennyworth Season 2 on home video now.
