It’s been a quiet week for movie news, but we still have a few bits of information to share including Wonder Woman 2 casting news, Suicide Squad’s deleted scenes, the Aquaman trailer, and more cameo rumors for Shazam! Let’s dive right in. Here is your weekly update of the announcements and rumors that have released from March 23-29.
First up, Pedro Pascal (Narcos) has been cast in Wonder Woman 2, re-teaming the actor with Patty Jenkins whom previously worked with Pascal on the movie “Exposed.” According to Variety, Pascal is set to play a key role in the sequel, but specific details on who he’ll be portraying are being kept under wraps. Do you think he’ll be an ally of Diana or be teaming up with Kristen Wiig’s Cheetah? We should know more as filming is set to start very soon on the movie.
Suicide Squad’s director David Ayer took to Twitter to explain a missing scene from the movie that appeared in the trailers. The scene revolved around Joker pointing a gun with half of his face looking worse for wear. Ayer said of the missing scene:
After Joker dropped HQ from the help [sic] and crashed, Enchantress made a deal with him. He was going to take Harley home and be “King of Gotham” Harley stood up to him and refused to betray her new friends. The Squad turned on him and he escaped.
So it looks like Joker and Enchantress were going to possibly team up in one version of the movie. It certainly would have lead to the Joker have a more prominent and integral role in the movie.
If you’re wondering where the Aquaman trailer is, especially as it was rumored to appear at Wonder Con, you’re not the only one. James Wan revealed on Twitter why we haven’t seen a teaser for the film yet and promises something is coming very soon:
Hey friends, I usually do my best to avoid internet noises (especially fabricated distractions) but a teaser-trailer going out this weekend was never in the books — despite what some claim. It’s not because of anyone or any nefarious reason holding it back — IT’S ME. I am simply not ready yet to share. This movie is filled to the gills with VFX, and the process is as slow and laborious as a sea-slug! Yes, even shots for the trailers take forever to do, and I refuse to put out anything that might be construed as subpar. I know it seems like nothing much is brewing above the surface, but I can assure you, we’re working nonstop under the waves (Ps: And yes, I plan to use oceanic puns/references every chance I get)
James Wan is clearly out to make the best movie he can and that means also putting his best foot forward when it comes to a trailer. Hopefully, this means the trailer will blow us out of the water. See, I can do oceanic puns too!
Rumors that Superman will cameo in Shazam! are becoming almost as prevalent as the rumors of Ben Affleck quitting Batman. This week it’s Henry Cavill’s manager, Dany Garcia, is getting in on the fun. Garcia captioned a photo on Twitter of her and Cavill on a movie set with:
Who is this man?
What are we saying? What are we planning?
Oh, it’s goood… You’ll thank me later. 😉@GarciaCompanies pic.twitter.com/NqQN3O0lY8— Dany Garcia (@DanyGarciaCo) March 26, 2018
Definitely a sufficiently vague caption, and we’re getting to the point where either the joke is going to get old and they drop the tease, or they release an official photo of young Billy Batson meeting Superman. I sort of want to believe that latter is true. Brings us a few steps closer to a more classic version of Superman.
Rounding out the news is a story on The Hollywood Reporter regarding DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson, who is taking a leave of absence. Running of the company will fall in the hands of Dan DiDio, Jim Lee, Geoff Johns and Amit Desai until Nelson’s return. This shouldn’t have a big impact on any DC films currently in development, but it’s good to be in the loop on the behind-the-scenes action going on at Warner Bros. and DC.
Which one scene are you hoping makes an appearance in the Aquaman trailer? I’m pushing for a look at his classic costume or possibly an appearance by Nicole Kidman as Atlanna. Let us know in the comments below!
