After appearing in December’s Arrowverse crossover event, Batwoman moves closer to starring in her own CW show. The channel has ordered a pilot for their latest superhero drama to be written by Caroline Dries and produced by Executive Producer Greg Berlanti. While this was an expected direction for the character, it is further confirmation that the series may become a reality.
Played by Orange is the New Black‘s Ruby Rose, Batwoman will follow the ex-military turned vigilante Kate Kane as she becomes a major threat to Gotham’s criminal underground. Here is CW’s official description:
Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane [Rose] soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.
Game of Thrones’ David Nutter has signed on to direct the show. Nutter is not a new face for DC characters or they’re televised counterparts. He has previously worked on both Arrow and Flash, a fact that suggests he may be just the man to continue DC’s live-action TV spots. There are no official announcements yet on who will star alongside Rose, but the upcoming months should have plenty of exciting news for fans of Batwoman, even if there are already rumors of who to expect.
